Chapter Thirteen --- Visit from an Outsider. The stranger moved quickly, coming closer and kneeling close to Imra while, at the same time, sharply admonishing “Don’t touch her.” Lyle and Luornu had been momentarily frozen, but Luornu now caused her two alternates to appear, the three of them quickly forming a close circle around Imra and the green man. “Your partner is suffering from neural shock,” the stranger explained, gently resting fingertips on Imra’s head. “The conduction velocity of my nervous system is eighty times faster than what is found in other intelligent life forms, and when she attempted to read me telepathically, she encountered an enormous amount of feedback.” The Luronus frowned. “I am rerouting vital nerve pathways in her cerebral cortex in an attempt to reduce the trauma,” the man went on. “This involves pressure therapy on specific points.” The emerald eyes gazed up at the women. “She will recover in a few moments. And as for you, Mr. Norg, you may as

Even with the investigations involving telepathic scans by Imra, plus surreptitious monitoring by Lyle and Reep (the latter having transformed into a fly), enough time was spent among the arcades, avenues and parks of Glamorgan Square to finally convince the team that nothing of any genuine importance would be gained.
The team eventually rendezvoused at an out-of-the-way Nutrimat kiosk to exchange notes. “Lots of people discussing the exploding statue,” Lyle said after he became visible, “especially around the explosion site. But nothing in the way of what

“Well,” Reep remarked as they left the headquarters. “Do we split up or what?”
“Admittedly,” Luornu replied, “splitting up would be easier for you and me than for the others.”
Searching her memory, Imra could find no mention of humor being a major Carggite export; an observation which surprised her none at all.
She shook her mind clear of further snarky clouds. Besides, such comments were usually Rokk’s purview. “Well, seeing as how Kyle’s the only native Terran in our little gr

No one was in a mood to eat by the time the team returned to headquarters, or even make any sincere attempt at conversation. Truth be told, the overall attitude leaned more towards shuffling to the Reception Room and slumping about the curved table. Anyone who had an ounce of anthropological interest could’ve noted that the members of the team had, by now, unconsciously selected “favorite chairs” along the table, with Rokk, Garth and Imra occupying the center three positions.
Imra watched as Nura seemed to once more drift off, and she silently envied the Naltorian for having

“We are police officers,” Imra pointed out.
“We’re not,” Nura replied. “Technically.”
“’Technically’,” Imra echoed. “But we’re close enough.”
Nura opened her mouth, as if to pursue the argument, then closed it, apparently changing her mind.
Everyone (including Gim) were back at the headquarters, enjoying an impromptu meal on level-5. The investigation of Dirk Morgna’s apartment had yielded no discernable results worth the trouble of suspecting. Morgna seemed to be nothing more than a nuclear eng

Luornu frowned. “Not really a computer?”
Her two selves had integrated once the teams had made their scheduled rendezvous (choosing an observation platform within the Susquehannock State Forest which was halfway between Samantha Ridge and Swan Acres). Upon doing so, Luornu paused a bit before asking Imra and Rokk the question.
“Excuse me,” Imra said. “Not wanting to change the subject, but I’m admittedly curious. When your separate selves come together do you immediately learn all that they’ve encountered?”

It was decided to wait until the next day to formally kick off the investigation.
With some discussion, of course.
“Is this smart?” Reep asked. “Shouldn’t we be doing something . . . I don’t know . . . immediately?”
“It’s smart,” Nura replied.
“You foresaw this?” Reep asked her.
“It’s smart,” Nura repeated, a touch more emphasis in her voice.
Garth privately wondered what would happen if Nura had a premonition and the team elected to go against it. He also made a mental note to inquire if a

The first wave of applicants had come and gone with the majority facing disappointment in not achieving their dream of membership.
(“I’m sorry,” Rokk had told the others, “but all he could do was turn himself into a stone statue. The Zwennites are fine people, but my sympathies just go so far. And when did I become the bad guy in this group? What happened to that guy who could breathe fire? Now that was useful. Is he still around?”)
So it was that the group ended its first cycle with a membership of ten, and even Garth had thoughtfully poked his tongue agains

Brande was as good as his word, and what became known as the “Core Group” of the Legion enjoyed a bit of a respite. A chance to catch its breath, figuratively as well as literally. Before the next day arrived, a broadcast was sent out globally (and beginning its expansion throughout the local stellar group). All interested parties learned that “formal auditions” for the Legion would take place in two weeks.
This allowed for more work on the clubhouse (Imra gritting her teeth as she resigned herself to accept the term). The first floor was divided into three sections:

Whereas Luornu’s offer to willingly help was gratefully accepted, Imra felt much better when, the next day, a rather palatial aircar bearing the Brande Corporation seal landed near the clubhouse (even Imra couldn’t avoid thinking of their headquarters in that term).
The aircar’s interior was dominated by a rather palatial parlor which was, in turn, dominated by a rather palatial R.J. Brande who smiled at Imra, Rokk, Garth, Gim and Luornu, beckoning them to join him around a table piled with a variety of food and drink.
“I do apologize,” Imra said to Brande (and

Racism has no place in this world. If you have that kind hate in your heart and mind, you need to re-evaluate your life. As a white man I’m disgusted with the amount of racism that still exists in this world, especially among Star Wars fans.
I'm still having to financially struggle (and, as such, work on hopefully more lucrative projects), but I've been continually receiving such nice compliments concerning "Light Work" that I'm going to produce a new chapter which will appear as soon as...
First off, many apologies for the considerable delay in getting this chapter out. I've been obliged to deal with a lot of personal problems throughout the last few months and have only very recently been able to return to anything remotely resemblin...
